LA County Sexual Assault Settlement Fraud Probe

LA County Sexual Assault Settlement Fraud Probe

LA County faces a probe into potential fraud within a large sexual assault settlement. A lawyer claims up to 81% of claims could be fraudulent, potentially defrauding victims and taxpayers.

“While no quantity of cash can remove the scaries that they withstood, this arrangement recognizes the profound damage caused on countless children throughout years,” stated Adam Slater, a lawyer for among the plaintiffs.

“False coverage of sexual assault threatens our entire justice system and is a major injustice to actual victims who have currently endured unspeakable trauma,” he claimed then in introducing the criminal probe.

    Investigation into Settlement Fraud

Hochman submitted the movement one year after the LA Area Board of Supervisors agreed to pay on greater than 11,000 cases of sexual assault from targets previously captive at juvenile halls, foster homes and kids’s shelters.

“The District Attorney’s Office believes the percent of fraudulent cases in the related claims looking for funds from this negotiation might be as high as 81 percent,” Hochman’s office wrote in the court documents, which were viewed by The Message.

District Attorney’s Concerns on Fraudulent Claims

“My Office is taking the accusations seriously that some people were paid money to have law practice file false sexual abuse insurance claims against the Area. This is criminal conduct that abuses the law and takes from sufferers and taxpayers.

Nathan Hochman urged a Los Angeles Area Superior Court judge to stop payments until Dec. 31 amidst a recurring criminal examination, which was released in November in 2015, according to a motion submitted Thursday
