Sausalito Mayor Arrested for Felony Burglary on Private Yacht

Sausalito Mayor Elaine Forbes was arrested for felony burglary after being found on a private yacht without authorization. The incident is described as a difficult development by the City, and a representative cited mental health issues.

According to the Marin Region Constable’s Office, Forbes at first informed replacements the private yacht came from her. Detectives later on called the vessel’s owner, that stated Forbes was not authorized to be aboard.

She previously held public-sector duties in San Francisco and Oakland, including working as finance director for the San Francisco Planning Department, and operated in not-for-profit land-use and economic-development organizations.

In her last year at the Port, Forbes was a public face of the Angler’s Jetty Onward effort, which proposed replacing the shuttered Alioto’s Dining establishment structure with a public plaza neglecting the dock’s angling fleet.

The Arrest on the Yacht

Sausalito’s new mayor was detained early Saturday on uncertainty of felony break-in after Marin County sheriff’s deputies responding to a sound problem discovered her aboard a yacht that authorities claim belonged to somebody else.

City’s Response and Family Concerns

In a declaration complying with the arrest, the City of Sausalito called it “a challenging growth for our City staff and our neighborhood” and stated it would certainly not comment further while the investigation remains energetic.

“Elaine is experiencing a psychological health situation. As the facts become clearer and Elaine obtains legal and healthcare advise in the coming days and hours, we hope individuals will respond with concern, patience and respect for her and her household throughout an extremely tough time,” the agent included.
